BOOK REPORT #1:

“FREE CHOICE” FICTION

Due date: Monday, October 6

For your first book report, you may choose any book of fiction that interests you. This novel should be a fifth-grade level book that is at least 150 pages long. I expect you to choose books that are challenging. Please do not choose a book that you have already read. I must approve your book by Friday, September 12.

Poster:

Create a poster-sized advertisement for your book. You may use poster board of any color (I suggest something other than white).

You must include the following on your poster:

1. Title of the book

2. Author’s name

3. Main characters’ names and a short description of each

4. Large illustrations of 3 main events that occurred in your book and a short paragraph describing each event. Select exciting events that will help advertise your book.

5. Please include your full name in the lower right corner.

Oral Presentation:

Pretend that you are a book salesperson, and make a sales pitch to the class about your book. Share information that will convince your classmates to read this novel, including information from your poster.

Your oral presentation should be well organized with an attention-grabbing beginning, an informative middle, and a strong ending.

The maximum time limit for your oral presentation is 4 minutes. Be sure you practice at home. You may use note cards to remind you of information you want to share, but do not read from them word for word. TELL us about the book so that we will want to read it! BE CREATIVE AND PERSUASIVE!

Presentations will begin on Monday, October 6.

Grading:

Your grade will be a combined score for both the poster and the presentation. The class will discuss and determine the criteria for grading.
