Book Report – Acrostic Poem
Biography/Autobiography
Due: May 2, 2008
Objective:
You will write an acrostic poem that provides information about the life and
accomplishments of the person you read about.
After
reading your book, collect facts, details, information regarding your person’s
life. Be sure to include family information, education, accomplishments, and
contributions.
Using
the person’s name you can create your acrostic in two ways:
1. Use each letter of the
person’s name as the first letter of your statement:
M ary Ellen was the name of her great
grandmother.
S he enjoyed science class at St. Felicitas
Elementary School.
H ow she loved to play tennis in high school!
2. Use each letter of the person’s
name somewhere in your statement:
Mary
Ellen was the name of her grandmother.
She
attended St. Felicitas Elementary School for 8 years.
She
played varsity tennis in high school.
After
reading your poem, your audience should know more information about your person
than they did before. Statements should be more than just where and when the
person was born. Give the readers fascinating, little-known, or important
information.
Be
creative in how you put your acrostic together. You can:
©
Type
it up and use different color ink for the letters and statements;
©
Use
markers and typed-written statements;
©
Use
magazine cut-out letters and then hand-write the statement;
©
Use
sticker letters and type up the statements.
You
can:
©
Decorate
the page with pictures of your person (Xerox copies, or free-hand);
©
Add a
decorative border around the edge;
©
Use
poster board or fancy papers;
©
Poster
should not be bigger than 11” x 17 “
Remember that presentation is
important. These might get hung up in the hallway. Neatness, correct spelling, good grammar
will be part of your grade.
