Second grade is a fun, exciting year at St. Clare! We are actively engaged in our learning, exploring all subject areas such as language arts, math, science (including a second grade only Science Club), social studies, and religion. We also have additional courses such as art, p.e., music, library, and computer sciences. During the year, we have many exciting field experiences in the works to complement our learning in the classroom. Such trips have included visits to Plumper Pumpkin Patch, OMSI, Tryon Creek State Park, Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve, and plays based on great children's literature performed by Oregon Children's Theatre. Service learning is also a key component of our curriculum so we volunteer with the Oregon Food Bank numerous times during the school year and visit West Hills Village to read with senior residents. Last, but not least, second grade is also a very important year for our children as they receive their First Holy Communion in the spring.

This is my fifth year in the teaching profession and working at St. Clare. I strive to meet the needs of each and every learner in my classroom by creating a safe and respectful learning environment and employing teaching strategies to meet how my students learn.
